2020 tallies highest number of registered voters in Pinal County

Hit with a worldwide pandemic, many wondered if the turn out for the 2020 election season would be affected.  While many assumed a reduction in numbers, the USA has seen a spike in registered voters across the country, including in Pinal County.  This year, Pinal County has a total of 263,199 registered voters, which is a 23% increase from the 202,079 registered voters in the 2018 election, only two years ago.

179,153 early ballots were requested for the general election and as of October 26, 2020, 97,596 ballots have been processed with an additional 6500 received in the mail to be processed.  Those numbers exceed the total number of early ballots processed for the full 2016 election.  So far the ballots received show Republicans with 39,092, Democrats with 33,480 and Party Not Determined with 24,412. There have also been 562 Libertarians and 50 Green party ballots processed.

The Pinal County Elections Department is asking anyone who still has their early ballot to drop off the ballot at one of the designated drop off boxes, at the elections department or at a polling place on election day.  It is too late to place the ballots in the mail in order to be received by 7 pm November 3, 2020.

Drop off boxes are being emptied 3-4 times per day, across Pinal County, and processed same day reports Pinal County Recorder, Virginia Ross.  "While there was a bit of a delay initially, because the department was short-staffed, we are now caught up and processing ballots every day."  Anyone looking to track their ballot may do so here.  The official ballot drop box in San Tan Valley is located outside the Pinal County Health Department Office off Gantzel, in the medical plaza just south of Banner Ironwood at 36235 N Gantzel Rd, San Tan Valley, AZ 85140.

Pinal County will have a total of 90 polling places for the general election November 3, 2020, which is the same number of polling places available during the primary election.  No locations have been changed.  Each polling place will include poll workers wearing masks and the public is asked to do the same.  Social distancing will be enforced and all pens, stations, surfaces will be disinfected regularly.  Those wishing to vote in person on election day are encouraged to bring a mask and their own pen.  Masks and sanitized pens will be available at the polling places as well.  In addition, several polling places will have workers in the parking lot available to pick up sealed early ballots.  To find your polling place, click here, and enter your address.

Polling places will open at 6 am and will close at 7 pm. Anyone in line before 7 pm will be allowed to cast their vote.  All ballots must be received by 7 pm November 3, 2020 in order to be counted.  Follow SanTanValley.com for real-time election results.  Initial numbers will be posted after 8 pm.

Regardless of your party affiliation, SanTanValley.com is encouraging anyone who is registered to vote, to cast their vote.  Let your voice be heard.
